Here we are down on the Texas Riviera (the gulf coast of Texas) in our Michalak designed Caprice. This is one of things we like to do when we are not sitting in front of the computers, minding the store. It is R&R and R&D all wrapped up in one. We try out hardware, sails, wood finishes, and other gear. In this picture, we are testing the ability of the Caprice to sail with no one at the tiller so we could send a picture to Jim Michalak. Pretty cool, huh?

This summer was Year One for the Texas 200, and  by all accounts, it was a success.  Two hundred miles is a long slog, but the Texas coast is a unique and beautiful place to cruise.  The plan is to make it an annual event, and Chuck even has ideas about adding a race that would take place in the Spring or Fall when the weather is less predictable (just to spice things up a bit).  More about that later.

We have a new blog, Duckwords, and we will try to talk a bit about other activities we are involved in (house renovation, trips to Lake Powell, etc) as well as muse a bit about this business and the ins and outs of retail and mail order, etc.  Might even do a little political rant and rave, but will try to keep that under control—not really a whole lot of spare time for a blog—it is just that we have so many questions that seem to go unanswered because there is no way we can respond to every email.  Not that familiar with blogs just yet, but I think they invite comments, so please feel free, and we will respond in general when possible.

We are looking at adding a line of “green” products to our store.  We have a new composting toilet in our home, and we are looking at solar and wind ideas at the moment.  We like (and have always liked) the idea of keeping our “impact” or “footprint” (or whatever the current politically correct word is) to a sustainable minimum, and we think that path might be a good one for the future.  Not to worry, supplies for boat builders will be first and foremost unless you all suddenly disappear.  That would be quite a feat!
