Windling World, created and published in New Zealand, is a 28 page monotone, non profit specialist magazine which has been appearing since 1995. It is published thrice-yearly in April, August and December and is all about model sailboats and sailboating. The word `Windling' was coined by Mark Steele, its Publisher and Editor, to define model sailing boats used for fun and relaxation, or put another way, in a cruising as opposed to serious often argumentative racing manner.
It covers and includes sailing boat models of every kind and size and encourages enjoyment to be derived from non-pressure involvement, friendship and the love of model sailing boats. It also has articles relating to fullsize sailing boats and people who have been involved with them, often inter-faced within issues
It is non-technical but factual, maintains a light-hearted style and approach to model yachting, applauds humour and the ability to laugh at oneself, and promotes the often taken for granted element of friendship with others, even those unmet, but linked by a shared interest in marine modelmaking and sailing of the little boats.
Available on subscription only it goes to readers in fifteen countries. Extensively pictorial, like most publications it is never going to be for everybody. It has been best described as a `refreshing item that blows in three times yearly from the Antipodes'.
