Glacier Boats/Brian Dixon
Brian Dixon was born and raised in Oregon
and has been boating in virtually all types of water ranging
from high mountain lakes to the Mouth of the Columbia River
to 30 miles off the Oregon coast and various destinations
in Alaska. He has always been one for the open waters of the
ocean and enjoys this environment more than any other.
Brian now lives in Fairbanks, Alaska, where
his boat design efforts continue. He has both Master's and
Bachelor's degrees in electrical and computer engineering
and is currently working for the Alaska Satellite Facility
(ASF) portion of the University of Alaska's Geophysical Institute.
The Great Alaskan is a design first produced
for the Westlawn School of Yacht Design and was born by inspiration
that came from Stephen Pollard's Sitka, Renn Tolman's boats,
and the principles behind the semi-dory sea skiff hull form
in general.
The next designs in line will be for drift
boats and Interior Alaska type river boats designed for operating
with high efficiency on the skinny rivers of Interior Alaska.
