The photo above is of a strip planked version
of the Islay
with additional depth added to the hull
The Islay is a recent development
of our Iona design for a client who required a graceful boat
with more beam and a little more sheer. He also wanted a traditional
cutter rig with a jaunty looking bowsprit.
Construction can either be
by the strip planked method (and computer lofted mould shapes
are shown for this) or by the same method as that used on
the Iona
design with stringers and backbone laid over a system of mould
shapes with the ply planking applied oversize and defined
by the stringers.

The other 2 photos show a clinker/ply version
by Rob
Johnsey to the original plans (which also give
details for a stitch & tape version).
This gives a traditional clinker
boat appearance but uses a much easier and quicker method
to achieve it. Alternatively, plank shapes can be supplied
for stitch and epoxy construction.
LOD 16’5’’;
Beam 5’6’’; Draft 1’/3’6’’;
Sail Area 126 sq.ft.; Approx. wht. 350 lbs.
