| We designed the 16’
Stornoway for Walt Scherf and having built that boat, he asked
me to draw up an 18’ fast dayboat based partly on the
Stornoway model but with lower sleeker lines. What has evolved
is a hull with 6 planks per side and a very narrow flat bottom
panel to make construction easier. The plans have been drawn
up for clinker/ply construction but the plank shapes are given
for stitch and tape construction too. For both methods, construction
starts with a ply backbone epoxied to the narrow bottom panel
making a very strong ‘T’ section.
The standard plan uses a aerofoil
sectioned daggerboard for maximum efficiency but she could
take a hinged centreboard. There is plenty of room for buoyancy
and dry storage.
LOA 18’ (5.486m); Beam 6’1” (1.850m); Draft
4’2” /7” (1.260/0.175m); Sail Area 149 sq.ft
(13.83 sq.m); Approx. weight 475 lbs (215 kg).
