| The
Swift 6 metre dayboat was commissioned by Mr. P. Roberts who
wanted an easily built boat similar in line to some of the
French dayboats. In fact, she is also similar to boats of
the Gareloch and Loch Long classes raced on the Clyde. The
drawings show full details for her construction using the
easy stringer/clinker plank method as used on the Islay design
but she may also be built using the strip plank method or
a drawing can be produced showing plank shapes for stitch
and epoxy. Mould sectional shapes are erected upside down
on a building frame. The keel structure, transom and stem
are then temporarily fastened in place along with the stringers.
The ply planks are then applied oversize and trimmed to the
shape dictated by the stringers. The chipboard mould shapes
are all computer faired so that there is no need for lofting
and details are given for hollow wood spars.
