Our 3, 5, and 8 meter tapes (shown above) are Lufkin brand. Each tape has:
-
shock absorber to protect the end hook upon return
- case designed to fit your hand
- clear coat blade protection and more durable markings
- non-glare, ultra matte blade finish
- durable high-impact and "hi viz" case
- been fully inspected for accuracy
Here is what the blades look like:

There was considerable
discussion on the John
Welsford builders forum about the metric
system and metric tapes. Two prevailing opinions came
out of the exchange: 1) The metric system is much easier
to use, once you learn it, and 2) When building a boat,
you want your tape measure to have the same system on
both sides of the blade.
Unfortunately, it is
almost impossible to find metric-only tapes here in
the US. None of the retailers I tried had them, and
it is difficult to find them on the internet. We finally
found a couple of manufacturers who make them (Starrett and Lufkin) and bought
enough to sell.
Feedback:
Chuck,
I just came across your website while searching for Matsushita saw blades. I like what I see and while I don't have a project going right now that requires any of your products, I will keep you in mind in the future.
I have a Pygmy Kayak and have a friend also building one whom I will forward your web address to.
One thing that caught my eye was the metric measuring tapes. I too wanted a metric tape with markers on both sides of the tape for doing tile work and other such projects. I bought an 8m Stanley tape while in Swaziland, Africa a couple years ago.
Thanks for your time,
John.
