| Sometime
last year, Chuck Gottfried sent us a tool review
for a tool called a sand shark. He called it a cross between
a rasp, a block plane, and a sanding block on steroids.
The response was instant
and uniform: folks wanted to know where to find this wonderful
tool. But it was only after I attempted to buy a few Sand
Sharks for our store that I learned they had been discontinued.
Then a couple of weeks
ago, Bob Archibald wrote me to say he had found a source
for the item. I called the number and sure enough it happens
that someone had the foresight to buy some Sand Sharks
at the end of the production run and is offering them
for sale.
We bought a dozen on the
spot and will sell those until they are gone. After that,
we may be able to buy more and we may not. So if you want
one of these fine tools, order now before they are gone
forever.
The
tool comes in a blister pack with a plastic handle, a
heavy file-like plate and a mounting screw. One side of
the plate has a coarse tooth pattern while the other side
is fine. The application that appeals to boat builders
is the ability of this tool to smooth an epoxied surface
and prepare it for painting or another layer of epoxy.
